Handcrafted Witches Bells – Sister Magic

Some sisters seem to be two halves of the same whole. One is the sun, the other the moon – different in almost every way yet somehow, belonging together.

My Sister Magic Witches Bells were inspired by the Owens aunts, Franny and Jet, from Practical Magic. I love their differences just as much as I love the bond between them. They have shared a lifetime – years of family, stories, disagreements, loss, laughter, knowledge and, of course, magic.

I wanted both sisters to have their own place within this set rather than simply blending them together.

For Franny, I chose warm Sunstone and the sun + crow – bright, strong and unmistakably her own. For Jet, I chose deep black Jet and moon + cat – a quieter, darker counterpart. Together they became the sun and moon of the piece: two distinct halves sitting side by side.

Between them is a little old book. I love what it represents here – all those years of accumulated knowledge, family stories, things learned and remembered, and the old magic that does not belong to only one generation. It is gathered, carried and eventually passed along.

Perhaps that is what I love most about Franny and Jet. Their magic is wonderful, but underneath it is something very ordinary and very human: two sisters who have spent a lifetime knowing one another.
