My drum: Moidyn Varrey I call her – words cannot describe my feelings upon introducing her to the ocean. I have been waiting a very long time for this. Our journey towards the ocean took many hours and as we finally walked along the sand to a favourite secluded spot, then down to the ocean, I could hear and feel her whispering, feeling such excitement for our new experience together. I anointed her with the saltwater, along the pine hoop and a few very light and gentle drops on her skin, we then waded amongst the dancing waves while she sung! Oh it was magic!

Moidyn Varrey has a very strong connection to water – most especially the ocean – as well as with my female lineage and my homeland across the seas. She is my link to my ancestors & guides, and is all about the ebb & flow and healing. She is a peaceful soul, though will pack a punch if needs arise.

Being creative, I of course could not resist wood burning my drawings into the wooden hoop and beater stick. I wrote her name, as well as the ogham associated with her, as well as some Gaelic & Nordic & Indigenous (kangaroo tracks as she is made from kangaroo) symbols also.

One day, well worn & covered in symbols, carrying the beat, songs, & stories of many women past, Moidyn Varrey will pass onto my daughter. My strong, fierce, kind, determined, funny, loving daughter.

I cannot wait to further my journey with her in 2023! She will be shortly introduced to many more incredible women through Woodland Gatherers and Re-Wilding! Ohhh I can feel the magic already!
