Hello Beautiful People! So this is the first piece of my Musings & scribbles. I am feeling a wee bit shaky and nervous, so I am just starting off on something relatively straightforward to ease me back into writing again.
Keeping your crystals both clean & cleansed is very important. It helps to dispel any negative energies that have been taken in, and keeps their natural vibrations in check, restoring its natural state ready for when it will be next needed. Cleansing crystals is also a really helpful time for you to get into the habit of setting intentions. These are several methods of Cleansing, not all which are suited to all crystal types. Rice, salt, sound and burying in the Earth are some other methods as well.

– Groovy Full Moon Vibes: Let the bright and nurturing energies of our mysterious Moon cleanse your beautiful crystals. The night before, the night of, and the night after a Full Moon are the best times to do so. At dusk, place your crystals on a natural surface (rock, wood, earth) and leave overnight for them to take in those Full Moon vibes. Be mindful of any wet weather as some crystals cannot get wet! Alternatively, popping them on a windowsill also works, especially if it involves jewellery or selenite. Bring them all inside in the morning before any direct sunlight reaches them as some crystals will fade in sunlight. If it is a cloudy or rainy night, do not worry as the Moon’s energy will still be there to cleanse.
– Sun-loving Goodness: Just like Moonlight, Sunlight is a beautiful tool to use to cleanse and re-energise crystals. It is recommended that if you wish to cleanse your crystals using the Sun, that they are done so at cooler times of the day out of direct sunlight, and only for short periods of time. Place your crystals on a natural surface such as rock, wood, or earth. Some crystals will fade or discolour, while others will become brittle and break.
Ametrine, Amethyst, Aventurine, Aquamarine and any Beryl-type crystals, Blue Apatite, Calcite, Celestite, Chrysoprase, Citrine, Fluorite, Kunzite, Opal, Quartz, Sapphire, Topaz and Turquoise, are just some of the crystals that will be affected by direct Sunlight. Some of the more opaque crystals are just fine with being charged under our glorious Sun, including Howlite, Jade, Labradorite, Lapis Lazuli, Sunstone, and Tourmaline. But please be mindful that there is a chance that any sun-loving crystals will eventually fade over time.

– Running Water + Sea Water Cleansing: Using running water is a beautifully peaceful method of washing away/neutralising any negative vibes inside your crystal. It is best to use natural running water, such as a creek or stream, but using running water from a tap is also acceptable as well. Keep your crystal submerged for at least a minute, enjoying the flowing energy and movement of the water whilst gently visualising the water cleansing that energy away, then gently pat dry. Sea Water is another excellent natural resource to cleanse your crystals – peaceful rolling waves & serene beach vibes! Rinse your crystals with regular water after cleansing in salt water.
Crystals suited to water cleansing are hard ones like Agate, Amethyst, Ametrine, Aventurine, Citrine, Red Jasper, and Clear, Rose, Smoky & Snow Quartz.
– Which Crystals should never get wet? There are many crystals that cannot get wet as they will dissolve, discolour, become damaged, or turn toxic or release toxic fumes. **Please note that the following list features only the more commonly-found crystals. The general consensus is that anything ending in ~ite, will be negatively affected by water, but please ensure you thoroughly research all of your crystals physical properties first before getting any wet or storing them in a wet room such as your bathroom** This list includes all of the Calcites, Chrysocolla, Fluorite, Hematite, Kunzite, Kyanite, Labradorite, Lapis Lazuli (as it contains Pyrite), Lepidolite, Lodestone, Malachite, Pyrite, Rhodochrosite, Selenite, Sodalite, Turquoise.
– Other kind Crystal Goodness: Carnelian, Clear Quartz, and Selenite are 3 crystals that are also helpful for cleansing other crystals. They all can be fashioned into bowls and plates, wands, generators, hearts, palmstones and more, to add not only a beautiful but practical addition to your space. Here at Woodland Dreamings we source and stock some gorgeous Selenite pieces, and hoping to design up some etched Carnelian before the year is out. Additionally, just popping a tumble or 2 of one of these crystals in amongst your other crystals is also an effective method.
– Smudging: Smudging is the easiest method of cleansing your crystals, as there is no need to worry about water or sun exposure. White Sage is the most popular choice of plant to use in a smudge stick, though there is a range of beautiful native flora that can be used as well. Please always be mindful that you source your White Sage in particular from a sustainable source. Our Smudge sticks that we stock here at Woodland Dreamings are sourced from a farm only a couple of hours away, where each herb is lovingly grown and sustainably harvested, before being carefully made by hand.
– Please always research your crystals first before exposing them to water/liquid, sunlight, and your skin.
– After your crystals are cleansed, this is the ideal time to set an intention for them. There are several methods of doing so that I will talk about next.
Thanks beautiful people – first one down, with more to come!
