Litha, Australia 2022:
Litha is the celebration of the Summer Soltice – this marks the longest day of the year! From then on, the days get shorter until Yule at the Winter Solstice when night is at its longest.
Litha is a time of joy, of strength, of warmth, of light, and of the power of nature. Sturt’s Desert Pea is the flower of the Summer Solstice here in Australia.
Bon fires are usually an essential part of Litha celebrations – you jump over one for luck for a good harvest – but often that cannot be the case with many local areas with a fireban. A fire pit, bbq, wood stove, candles, or even a torch can be used as a more appropriate alternative – the intention is there always.
Litha is a time to celebrate the natural beauty that is all around us, and you can incorporate that into your rituals by using some local flora into your altar, garlands, or wreath (we’re also creating clay tree spirits using locally foraged resources). As always, remember to only take a little from around us!
This is also a magical time to celebrate the friendships around us. Do something cool with your nearest & dearest together – even little things like creating friendship bracelets or flower crowns, cooking, card readings, fish & chips at sunset, anything! Technology nowadays allows us to connect easier, so even doing these things via group video chat can also work.
With this extra daylight the longest day of the year gives us, and the fact that it lands so close to the calendar New Year, Litha is a really wonderful time to look back on th year. Take a little time to rest and remember – reflect on those lessons learned, those not-so-great times, and celebrate the magical, the amazing, the fun & laughter-filled memories. Write your thoughts down and send them off into the Universe using your flame (safely x)
I will personally be using this time to begin my journalling for the New Year. I will plant the seeds for my 2023, and send those manifestations out into the Universe also.
